James McAuley is a writer and historian. His first book, The House of Fragile Things, won the National Jewish Book Award in history in 2022. His second book, Edmond de Rothschild: Finding Zion will be published in May 2026, and he is currently at work on a history of Holocaust memory, to be published by Alfred Knopf in the US and Bodley Head in the UK.
