Calder Walton, an historian at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, is one of the world’s leading scholars of intelligence and national security. His new book, Spies. The Epic Intelligence War between East and West, reveals how Russia and the West have been engaged in an intelligence struggle for a hundred years— and counting. Among other matters, Calder’s book revealed that in 2020 Russia was in late-stage planning of an assassination on US soil. Before Harvard, Calder received a doctorate in History from Trinity College, Cambridge, where he also helped to write Christopher Andrew’s authorized history of MI5. He lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with his wife and son, who teaches him the true nature of subterfuge.
