Ian Livingstone

Ian Livingstone was educated at St Pauls School London and City University where he obtained a degree in Optometry and Visual Science.

He worked in retail optics and established the David Clulow retail chain and then acquired Sunglass Hut Europe. Partnered with Luxottica and expanded the group to 220 stores before selling his stake to Luxottica in 2010.

In 1990 he set up London and Regional Properties with his brother Richard. Today L&R is one of the largest real estate owners and developers in Europe with around €9 B of assets. The company has been active in UK, Ireland, Spain, Germany, Scandinavia, Russia, South Africa, USA, Latin America and The Caribbean. Operational businesses have included David Lloyd Leisure and various healthcare assets.

The company has developed more than 15 million sq ft of commercial space around the world and major developments include Panama Pacific and V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.

Hotel assets have been a key focus and the portfolio includes around 15000 rooms. Assets include the Hilton Park Lane, Fairmont Monte Carlo as well as iconic boutique hotels such as Cliveden House and Chewton Glen. Other hotel assets include the Atlas hotel company which owns and operates around 50 Holiday Inn Express assets throughout the UK.

Ian is a trustee of the Mayors Fund for London and is involved in a number of charities in and advisory capacity. He is married to author and historian Natalie Livingstone, who is the Chairman of the Cliveden Literary Festival.
